What Is The Difference Between A Non-woven Bag And A Paper Bag?

Jun 13, 2025

Materials and Production Process

Non-woven Bags: Non-woven bags primarily utilize polymers such as polypropylene (PP) and polyester (PET) as raw materials. They are manufactured through processes like spinning, hot pressing, or chemical bonding, bypassing traditional textile procedures. This results in a short production process and high efficiency. The randomly distributed fibers form a porous structure, endowing the bags with a lightweight and thin profile, along with a certain degree of toughness.

Go Green Nonwoven Bags

Paper Bags: Paper bags are mainly crafted from natural plant fibers sourced from wood, reeds, cotton, and linen. The production involves pulping, papermaking, cutting, and either bonding or sewing. Notably, this process consumes substantial water resources, and the pulping stage may generate wastewater pollution. The texture of paper bags varies according to the paper's gram weight; lower-gram-weight paper bags are soft, whereas higher-gram-weight ones are relatively stiff.

Environmental Performance

Non-woven Bags: Despite claims of reusability and degradability, conventional polypropylene non-woven bags have an extended natural degradation period, which can span decades or even longer. However, when produced with degradable materials, they can decompose rapidly under specific conditions. Increased reuse frequency reduces resource consumption and waste generation to a certain extent.

Paper Bags: With renewable raw materials entirely derived from natural plant fibers, paper bags decompose relatively quickly in the natural environment, typically within a range of several months to a few years. They are recyclable, helping to minimize resource waste. Nevertheless, the recycling process still entails energy and resource consumption.

Durability and User Experience

Non-woven Bags: Non-woven bags exhibit excellent wear and tear resistance, capable of bearing a certain load and being reused multiple times. Their good waterproof property safeguards the contents from rain. However, prolonged exposure to sunlight renders them prone to aging and brittleness.

Paper Bags: Paper bags feature relatively low toughness and limited load-bearing capacity, making them susceptible to breakage when carrying heavy items. Lacking waterproofing, their strength deteriorates rapidly upon contact with water, leading to easy damage. On the positive side, they offer a soft tactile feel and a simple appearance, providing a pleasant user experience when holding lightweight and dry items.

Cost and Application Scenarios

Non-woven Bags: While non-woven bag production demands significant initial investment in equipment and molds, large-scale manufacturing results in a low unit product cost. Owing to their durability and the ability to accommodate intricate printing, they are commonly employed for shopping bags, gift bags, promotional bags, etc., serving as long-term advertising mediums.

Paper Bags: The production process of paper bags is relatively straightforward, but high raw material costs and limited reusability contribute to a high overall cost. Their eco-friendly nature, aesthetic appeal, and fine texture make them ideal for applications such as food packaging, gift wrapping, and high-end product packaging.
